What is an extension?

An extension is a great opportunity to increase the overall square footage of your home. What is the difference between an extensioin and an addition?

The difference between an addition and an extension is in what we are building, specifically. An extension increases the size of an existing room. For instance, an extension of your kitchen would give you additional square footage, specifically in the kitchen. In comparison, an addition creates new functional space and can be outward or upward. Most commonly, people will make an addition off the back of their home to create a bonus room or additional bathroom, or, in some cases, add a bedroom over a garage. Both of these services require you to work with a construction company capable of doing them properly. Our Remodel process.

Since we first broke into the residential construction space, we have developed an amazing remodeling process that allows our project managers and general contractors to provide our clients with accurate timelines and ensures that our job sites are predictable and always moving towards completion. As a design-build firm in Wauseon, Ohio, our team has been working on Ohio Valley homes for years, and with our remodel process guiding the way, we will ensure that your next renovation project is nothing short of pain-free. 

Design.

As with any renovation project, it all starts with the initial design. We will work with you to develop your addition or extension in our 3D rendering software and test different looks and floor plans until we get something you love that works for your specific needs. 

Draft.

The next step of the process is to move our designs into a blueprint format to share with the county and our builders. The drafting process ensures that we can order the right amount of material and allows our team to secure any necessary permits to complete the work. 

bUild.

Once we have the permits in place, our team can start the building process. With our team of general contractors and project managers, we will oversee construction and ensure that any required demolition is completed properly, leaving us with a perfect canvas to start the work. We will schedule work around our available trades and will keep you updated on what is happening and when the project will finish.

The last step is to get our finishers into the space and get to their detailed work.   • What is included in the cost for your residential remodel services?

    When you work with our experienced team of renovation experts, you get to enjoy a full-service renovation. This means our costs will include design, drafting, building, and finishing. We will also provide a breakdown of material and labor costs so that it is clear what you are paying for on the project.  

  • Do you provide financing?

    We do not provide financing directly, but we partner with a few amazing local lenders to help you secure funding for your renovation, extension, or addition. You can also work with a local bank or financial institution to secure funding if that is preferred. We are happy to provide detailed quotes and will work with you to find solutions that fit your pre-established budget.  

  • Do you use subcontractors?

    Yes, as a design-build firm, we work with a set of local subcontractors and tradespeople to help support our renovation construction services. We include you in the process and will provide several pre-approved companies we have worked with in Northwest Ohio. We do not believe the lowest bid is always the best; instead, we work with trusted professionals whose residential construction skills we can vouch for.  

  • Can all homes add an extension?

    No, not all homes can add an extension to their existing footprint. The reason is that the feasibility of an extension depends on local zoning regulations, lot size, and the home’s existing structural integrity. In our experience, the biggest factors that often determine whether you can add an extension are the lot size and the home’s structural integrity. Due to local by-laws, your lot size may not allow for an extension as you need x number of feet between you and a neighbor. While others have homes that need significant structural upgrades before they can support an extension, making it financially unviable. Our team is happy to work with you to explore whether your specific extension is feasible and, if not, to provide alternatives.
