Our Metal Building Erector Process.
Over the years, our team has developed and worked through our erection process for Nucor pre-engineered metal buildings. This process ensures we can safely lift and bolt together your specific structural components, allowing our team to keep your project on time and on budget. This process is not only seamless but also Nucor-accredited, allowing you to keep your warranty intact when you work with our design-build team, no matter how much customization you have done during the design phase.
Pre-Construction and Engineering.
First and foremost, you need to design your building. When you work with Boyers, you will enjoy white-glove service that begins with the initial design meeting. We will work with you to design your space and add custom features that will make your commercial, industrial or agricultural building suitable for you. We will work with you to find an appropriate site and orientation, and to confirm the overall footprint.
Permits, stamped drawings and site prep.
Once the engineering is complete and the design is finalized, our team will begin preparing your architectural drawings, floor plans, and any other documents you need to obtain your permits. Then we will start the application process with Wauseon, OH, officials or local county officials to secure your building, environmental, and any other permits required to start construction. Finally, once we have the permits in place, we will start site prep, which will include removing vegetation, flattening the ground and building out access roads for the construction phase.
foundation installation.
The next step in the process is pouring the concrete foundation and adding the anchor bolts on which your building will be secured. We work with a local concrete foundation company to perform this process and will ensure that your concrete foundation pier is fully cured and level, and we will double-check that your anchor bolts are in the correct position per your certified erection drawings.
staging and unloading.
Once the foundation is in place or during the curing process, we will begin receiving your inventory and staging. We will organize your materials into structural steel, panels and trim. For the panels and trim, we will ensure they are stored on pallets at least 12 inches above grade and tilted to prevent moisture damage, thereby avoiding warranty voiding before they are even installed.
primary framing.
Next, this is the first step in our erection services: our primary framing. We will start by setting the sidewall columns and will generally start with your bays. These columns will be placed on the anchor bolts and secured with nuts and washers. Once all of the columns are in place and properly aligned, our team will then tighten them to spec. Next, we will start the rafter assembly and bolt the rafter segments on the ground before lifting them with a crane. Our team will then secure these rafters to the already-in-place sidewall columns with bolts.
secondary framing.
Once we have all the columns in place and the rafters secured, we can start the secondary framing process. This is where the building starts to take shape, and we begin with the wall girts, horizontal pieces that tie the columns together. We will start on one side and then erect the end wall columns last, binding the building together and creating a strong core. Next, we will install horizontal roof framing pieces, called roof purlins, between the rafters. These will add structural rigidity to the building, and we go bay by bay to ensure the roof is safe and secure once we are done.
sheeting.
Once the building's structure is complete and solid, we start the fun part: our sheeting process. This step takes a few days, as our team will need to install insulation, cladding, trim, and flashing. Our processes ensure that we install tape mastics and sealants before any insulated metal panels or standing-seam roof systems, so your building will be weatherproof for years to come. We will also make sure to properly fasten your panel screws so they can withstand the weather and expand and contract with the changing seasons. This proper installation method will help prevent potential issues such as panel distortion or dimpling.
finishing.
Once the building is built and the sheeting process is finished, we can start the finishing step. Finishing our metal buildings is all about the customized features and additions that you have made. Whether we are looking to add water, power, and HVAC or to have windows and entry doors installed, our final step is to coordinate with the utility companies and window and door companies to complete their processes. We will also take the time to test out various components of your custom build, such as detachable doors and panel dividers, and ensure that they are properly installed and ready for prime time.
final inspection.
The last step of our erector services is the final inspection. We are not a company that will overlook an improperly installed building; we will take the time to conduct a thorough inspection of everything from the HVAC system to the foundation and anchor pins. We will also complete any necessary walkthroughs with country, city, or state officials and obtain the sign-offs needed to secure occupancy of the space. Once we are happy with the building, its features, and the surrounding area, we will hand over the keys, and you can enjoy your custom metal building designed and built by Boyers.

Frequently Asked Questions.
Answers You Don’t Need a Hard Hat to Understand.
Is there a limit on the size of the building that you design?
If there is a limit, we have not found it yet. Our design-build team has worked on everything from massive warehouses to data centers and even livestock barns. The beauty of Nucor Building Systems is that the structure can be customized to any size. From something small like an equipment shed to a massive Amazon warehouse with automation and cranes, a Nucor Building System building, designed and built by Boyers Construction, can be built to spec and handle almost any size or footprint.
Does Boyers fabricate on-site?
Generally, we do not provide on-site fabrication services, as our building systems are prefabricated and arrive on site ready for assembly. Our team can provide field modifications and on-site welding if needed, but for 99% of our building sites, we never have to fabricate on-site.
Do I need to pay for the heavy equipment on-site?
No, the cost of assembly is included in your quote, and we are happy to provide the heavy equipment needed to support your build and assembly. Generally, we will use heavy equipment on the site, including excavators and smaller tractors, for site preparation. During assembly, we often use boom lifts, telehandlers and mobile cranes to support the primary and secondary framing processes.
Are your builders certified to work on job sites in Northwest Ohio?
Yes, Boyers Construction is proud to be an Ohio contractor that believes in doing things the right way and is fully licensed, properly insured, and bondable. We are also a proud Nucor Partner, and have the accreditation and skill set to properly assemble Nucor Building System metal buildings here in Northwest Ohio.
How long does it take to erect a structure in Wauseon, Ohio?
This depends on your specific project, but in general, if you have the permits in place and your foundation laid, it will take between two and twelve weeks to complete the full assembly process and have your building ready for operations. These timelines are for your typical agricultural building, but if you are planning a mega project like a million-square-foot warehouse or data centre, the timeline will stretch into months, given the complexities of these larger projects. During the design process, we will confirm estimated building timelines and provide regular updates from our project managers during the build and assembly process.
Do Nucor custom buildings require a foundation?
Yes, unlike other steel structures that you may have installed in the past, Nucor custom metal buildings require a poured foundation to be properly set up. The reason is that Nucor uses anchor bolts to secure the building, and these require a fresh pour to be properly spaced and secured.
Do you travel out of state for projects?
We can travel out of state for specific projects, but are generally limited to working here in Northwest Ohio as a Nucor Accredited Partner. Our design-build team is located here in Wauseon, Ohio, and we are proud to serve the entire Ohio Valley and the rest of Northwest Ohio with customized design-build services that create metal buildings tailored to your needs. From agricultural to commercial buildings, and even manufacturing, our design-build services are tailored for life here in the Buckeye State.
